Oaks North Community Center, Inc. Board of Directors Meeting (June 17, 2009)
OAKS NORTH COMMUNITY CENTER, INC.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
JUNE 17, 2009
MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Oaks North Community Center, Inc. Board of Directors was held at 12578 Oaks North Drive, San Diego, California, on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, with the following Directors in attendance: Frank Auwarter, John Coleman, Russ Hopps, Max Smith, John Whiteman and Clarence Wilkinson. Bob Ford was absent. Also in attendance were Center Manager, Honoria Bunnell, Office Manager, Sara Scrim, Jim Starkey, Chairman of the ARC for Houses, Rita Jacobs representing the ARC for Condos and interested members.
1. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 A.M. with Russ Hopps presiding.
2. MINUTES
It was moved by John Coleman and seconded by Frank Auwarter to approve the minutes of the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Directors held on May 20, 2009 as written. The motion was carried unanimously.
3. MEMBER/CLUB/COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION:
A. Swimming Pool Rules: Due to some incidents in the swimming pool involving lap swimmers and a member who walks back and forth across the lap lanes (which is in violation of the rules), rather than in the first lane by the steps which is the “walkers and talkers” lane, some issues were addressed by the member in violation and other members in attendance. The member in violation presented a letter stating she had a medical condition which requires walking in the pool. She further stated that she walked back and forth across the lap lanes because the water was too deep in the “walkers and talkers” lane. One member stated that she couldn’t see her while swimming and had been grabbed by the arm by this member. Other comments were: it’s not a therapy pool; walk in place and follow the established protocol; people who swim with a face mask and snorkel can’t see anyone in their lane; and the rules are for the safety of all pool users.
It was the consensus of the Board that the rules as established are to be enforced by the Manager, and if necessary the violator will be removed from the pool, and if the violation continued the Board would consider revoking her right to use the Center.
B. Men’s Sauna: A member stated that the Men’s sauna was off more than it was on. The Manager reported that someone pours water on the rocks which trips the breaker and causes the sauna to turn off.
C. White Picket Fence: The owners of a property on Cumana Terrace who, without prior approval, installed a 36" white picket fence across the front of their property, presented a petition signed by 31 of their neighbors who are in favor of the fence. It was reported that no other home in Oaks North has a fence across the front. The Board took the matter under advisement.
4. CORRESPONDENCE:
None.
5. ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE REPORTS:
A. Condos: Rita Jacobs reviewed the Committee’s Report (see attached.)
B. Houses: Jim Starkey reviewed the Committee’s written report.

“Queen Palms - After discussion, John Whiteman moved to not allow new planting of Queen Palms and Eucalyptus Trees in Oaks North. The motion was seconded by Frank Auwarter and passed”
Jim Starkey stated that he had gone to the Fire Department and was told that “Mexican Fan Palms” were not allowed but that other varieties were allowed, but they should be planted at least 20 feet apart and kept trimmed.
